Hydrogen Cars
Hydrogen cars are cars that use hydrogen as their fuel source instead of standard petrol and diesel fuels. This kind of technology is one of the newest in the 'green' car sectors.
These cars use what are known as hydrogen fuel cells through which the hydrogen is pushed in order to create a form of electricity which is used to power the engine. So, hydrogen cars are actually electric cars that are powered by hydrogen rather than by battery.
There are many advantages to using hydrogen cars. These include:
- They are more environmentally beneficial than standard fuel cars. They do not, for example, have harmful emissions as the only emission they give off in standard terms is water vapour. They are also not reliant on batteries.
- Hydrogen is held to be a sustainable source for fuel purposes as it can come from various sources including oil and gas, coal and waste products. Research is currently underway to try and find efficient ways to produce hydrogen via natural methods such as wind farms and so on.
- Hydrogen tends to be more efficient than standard fuels as it can power a vehicle to go further using less fuel than standard petrol products.
